August 9, 2023

It's been a busy few weeks! First I was up at the family cottage for a little weekend reunion with my dad's side of the family. Our Nanny passed away early 2020 so we were finally able to all get together and celebrate her and our Gampi (My dad's parents). This side of the family is already well aware that I am pregnant. It was a good weekend spent with family. My cousin Will's wife, Helena and I got to swap pregnancy stories. She is due at the end of August!

The next trip was camping up at Agnew Lake for a week with my cousin's Andrea and Mandy and their families. It was great to see all of them. Andrea, Mandy and I joke that we are Andrea's husband, Darrel's sister-cousin wives because we take care of everything when the three of us are together! It was a really great week.

After that week we all drove north from Agnew Lake to Pancake Bay on Lake Superior for the annual family reunion with my mum's side of the family. This is a big one with lots of aunts, uncles and cousins. We went for a hike on the Saturday morning and then beach on Saturday afternoon and Sunday. There is always WAY too much food. The favorites are definitely the homemade raviolis, and cappelletti soup.

My parents stood up on the Saturday night and announceed to everyone that I was pregnant. I was a little nervous about this announcement because I have a couple uncles that are very religious. I was worried they might be the first negative reactions I get about doing this pregnancy journey solo and not in the way "God" intended. Most were very happy for me. The two uncles did not say anything to me at first but the next morning, one uncle said he did some praying and reading in the bible and the passage he happened to read said something about love and kindness to everyone so he took that as a sign that he should be happy and supportive of me. The other uncle was silent on the matter until the morning I was leaving and he said something along the lines of "I guess you'll have your baby girl with you next year." The fact that he acknowledge the baby made me happy! I accept that not everyone has the same beliefs so certain things can be difficult for others to understand. Just getting these little bits of approval mean a lot to me and I take that as a win!

Over all this annual trip was a really good time spent with family!

Another good thing that happened during this trip was I found an afordable two bedroom apartment! I went to see it today and it will be perfect for me and the baby. My current appartment has many issues that do not make it good to bring a baby home to. Application has been submitted and was told I'm pretty much good to go!
